Refining against amplitudes as opposed
to intensities
has three principal effects. Firstly, the relative importance of the weak
reflections versus the strong is altered. Secondly, some observations
must be rejected arbitrarily because a negative intensity cannot be
converted to a structure-factor amplitude. Thirdly, the non-linear
transformation of 2#2 to F will introduce a systematic error in F
if there are significant, random, measurement errors in 2#2
[Schwarzenback et al., 1989].
